Just be yourself

Don’t be afraid or hesitant to be yourself.

The people who really DO matter… or in other words the people who SHOULD matter to you won’t have an issue with you being yourself.  If you realize that someone you ‘hoped’ or ‘expected’ to appreciate you does not, then take it as a lesson learned that they aren’t one of the people that you should be focused on.  Don’t lose any sleep over it, don’t get upset about it, after all getting upset isn’t going to change them… instead focus on being all of who God’s created YOU to be, and use your energy investing in others who can appreciate all of who YOU are.

Believe me they are out there… and if you spent less time focused on the people who don’t appreciate you, there would be  more time for you to be sharing with the people that really do and should matter to you!

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whim I trust.’

Psalm 91:1-2

The Lord is my Sheperd, I LACK NOTHING!!! Psalm 23:1

Do not fret because of those who are evil or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away.  Trust the Lord and do good;

Psalm 37:1-3(a)

No other help I know

You are the shelter, from the storm

You are my comfort, when things go wrong

You are the hope, when in despair

You are my helper, you’re always there

Father I stretch, my hands to thee

Father I lift up, my hands to thee

No other help, no other help, no other help I know

Over the past few weeks I’ve been rehearsing some songs to help a friend with their live recording.  I don’t know who wrote/sings this song… BUT MYYYYYYYY Goodness I LOVE it!!!

The words are so powerful, and to me they are my personal prayer…

Where did that critical voice come from?

Have you ever wondered where those negative, critical thoughts come from that you battle in your mind?  Seriously… I mean it’s a fact that we are all dealing with some form of internal criticism/negativity that seeks to take us off course, but a VERY big part of being able to overcome this battle is by first knowing WHO and WHAT you are up against.

Instead of giving my opinion my encouragement today is for you to seriously consider where those critical thoughts/voices came from that are bouncing around in your head.  A big part of being able to defeat your enemy is understanding it/them.

Nothing is impossible….

All things are truly possible with God.

I’m not too sure what your facing, or dealing with at this time, but I can honestly speak from personal experience (which includes being witness to many other peoples lives) I have seen (and experienced) situations and circumstances that once looked impossible COMPLETELY turn around.  These experiences have caused me to be able to make this statement with 100% confidence…. ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE WITH GOD!!!!

I hope that if you are faced with something challenging that seems like it just can’t be turned around, I encourage you to join me in saying and believing that all things ARE possible with God.

Oh Give Thanks…

Oh Give Thanks unto the Lord… There are just TOO many things to be thankful to God about… I can’t even begin to count aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall the ways…

Just a quick little note to remind you to be thankful… just take a moment and think about what you have to be thankful for today…

I always find it helpful thinking/concentrating on THOSE things as it has a funny way of brightening up the day.

If you haven’t taken note yet today of what to be thankful for take a moment and consider

ABC’s of Colleen

So I was daydreaming in the car the other day (which is something I do a lot), and I began to think about words that I want to represent who I am and who I am striving to be.  Then the idea of ‘The ABC’s of Colleen’ came to my mind.  So I thought I’d share what I came up with so far.

I actually had lots of fun doing this!  Perhaps if you’re bored one day and looking for something productive to do with some time you can do the ABC’s of YOU…. lol

Ok… so without further ado… here are the ABC’s of Colleen

Have you accepted your kid today?

Children need to feel unconditional acceptance no matter what they do, to know they’ll always belong to your household, and to learn to be competent.

Have a new Kid by Friday (pg 75) Dr. Kevin Leman

Day in and day out I see parents making the mistake of looking past this VERY important point.  They focus on the rules that aren’t being followed or a certain kind of behaviour that is problematic and harp on their kid about that, all the while not giving any thought to how they have communicated to their child that they are accepted (unconditionally), that they belong 100% and that they are competent.

I don’t want to come across as a person that isn’t about children following rules, because I am 100% in support of children following the rules and expectations of their parents, but a BIG part of helping children (especially the older ones) buy into parents values involves parents reinforcing their acceptance, and commitment to their children!!

My challenge to each parent reading this blog today is: what have you done today that blatantly communicates to your child that they are unconditionally loved, accepted, and are competent?  In my opinion this is one of the most valuable lessons a parent could ever teach to their child.
